Afrolicious is an experiment in pushing the boundaries of digital publishing at the intersection of the Africas and its many Diasporas across time, space, and spirit. Afrolicious centers Blackness and Black Africanness from all perspectives and doesn't react to white supremacist, imperialist, capitalist, patriarchal moments. It moves as if Black Africans and Black African Diasporas are the center of the universe because, to be quite honest, we are. If you're a part of these worlds and want to get your work in front of an audience that is passionate about them, this is the platform for you.
At the moment, Afrolicious is a weekly publication, and releases issues on Sundays. During the week following publication, Afrolicious promotes and instigates opportunities to engage with the content via social media events and partnerships with our loyal tribe.
Since Afrolicious is primarily digital, contributors are encouraged to have their own website or blog outside of social media, whether its a blogspot, a tumblr, or a full on WordPress installation. It's not a requirement, but we definitely prioritize those who come with us with their own platforms, regardless of size.
If writing's your thing, we pay $75 for stories, essays, thinkpieces, and rants between 600 and 800 words.
If you would like to design and/or develop a page of an issue, we also pay $75 for each page design.
If you would like to do something a bit different, we're open to all kinds of submissions and will pay a fair and agreed upon rate for your work.
To submit your pitch, email hello@afrolicious.com with the following details:
- A 140-character thesis
- One or two paragraphs describing the piece
- Three or four sources (potential sources, too)
- A link to your website or blog
- Any ideas for the article design
We will get back to you within two weeks. We look forward to receiving your ideas!
