Kovie and 'Pemi's Favorite Things

Nik-Nak is a delightful blog run by Kovie and 'Pemi who are on a mission to exalt the "beauty [they] find in the mundane." They were gracious enough to do a content exchange with me and share some of their favorite finds with AFROLICIOUS. Enjoy!

1. This handmade bag from Minku. Minku is run, and all its leather products are handmade, by Kunmi Otitoju, a Nigerian living (mostly) in Barcelona. Minku bags are lined with ‘re-purposed items of Yoruba ceremonial dress – aso-oke and damask fabric’. Minku ships all over the world!

2. Everything on Tactile Matter’s shop! Kenesha Sneed does patterns and textures excellently well. Her aesthetic is so totally our cup of tea! She doesn’t ship everywhere but if you’re in the US, there’s no reason you shouldn’t own one of these gorgeous stoneware ceramics.

3. The Tassel earrings from the TwentySix &Tope-Crystal Collaboration. We both own earrings from this project. Tope Crystal sells minimalist jewelry on the Nik-Nak Store so it’s lovely having a more elaborate style that you can wear for fan-cyyy events. TwentySix is also one of our favourite Nigerian brands and their collaborations always hit the spot.

4. The Sisi crossbody bag from Ethnik. With the use of simple, modern expressions for the indigenous aso-oke fabric, we’ve been fans of Ethnik for a long time. The crossbody bag is all the right shades of chic.

5. This super rad chair from Ile-Ila, a design brand founded by cmDesign Atelier - one of the cooler Architecture firms in Nigeria. Vintage aso-oke + teak wood streaks = sold!

6. The TK Cane Wall Sconce with Fringe by Caxton Alile. (Obviously, we have a thing for aso-oke.)

7. Framed prints from Monochrome Lagos. We’ve extolled Logor’s photography many times before and we’re still in awe of what he’s doing by taking out colour of the most chaotic Lagos. He’s selling some prints for the holidays and we’re itching to get one.

8. The very Nigerian cards from Not Just Pulp. We’re so over boring-ass cliché cards, and Not Just Pulp brings that breath of fresh air to the Nigerian scene with wit and colourful designs. Greeting cards, invitation cards… hit them up!

9. Araki Koman’s totes. Totes are all the rage… even we caught the bug. Araki is one of our favourite illustrators this year and her merchandise carries that effortless delicacy, detail and otherness that made us fall for her.

10. All the Tiro Tiro gorgeousness! The rad, handcrafted jewellry line we can’t stop gushing about is based in Portland, Oregon, but ships internationally. The simple, yet beautifully crafted pieces are just about perfect for everyday use.
